William Rankin

Dr William Rankin is an educational theorist, designer, speaker, and consultant with experience in higher education, Fortune 500 companies, small tech startups, and private consulting. He has worked with governments, educational organizations, and companies to develop and further innovative teaching and learning. An early champion of using mobile technologies for learning, he is a recognized authority on learner-centric and project-based learning and on using real-world experiences for learning.
In 2016, Rankin co-founded the Unfold Learning group to help schools and companies leverage the “cubic learning” model developed during his work at Abilene Christian University and Apple, and the “follow/tinker/play/share” constructionist learning approach developed for the Learning-by-Making Collective.
Rankin served as global Director of Learning at Apple from 2013–16, and previously, worked for 24 years as Professor of English, Director of Educational Innovation, and Honors College Fellow at Abilene Christian University.
