[RE]LEARN 2020 - The Learning Innovation Festival

With Co-Vid 19 disrupting how, where and what students learn, we are all asking deeper questions around how to adapt school models to be more learner centric. But there's a major barrier to our innovation~ we have several deeply rooted systems in our way. Rigid timetables, fixed standards, narrow reporting systems, standardized testing, isolated classrooms, and limited time to try new things.

How as school leaders do we accelerate school wide innovation to foster deeper, connected learning experiences with these kind of barriers standing in our way?

This dynamic session will share the transformational story of how one of the largest International Schools in Asia used a 'micro-school,' or 'school within a school,' to answer this question and transform the way students learned across the whole school. In this 'micro- school,' Futures Academy, students designed and ran small businesses as real entrepreneurs; developed community based environmental innovations as citizen scientists; and wrote and published professional books as historical anthropologists. Each learning experience was cross-disciplinary, dynamic, flexible and fluid, without a fixed timetable or mandated curriculum to stand in its way. In this dynamic keynote, Kyle will share key insights, anecdotes, and learnings on what made this kind of learning possible, as well as how you as a school leader can use 'micro-schools' to accelerate innovation on your own campus. You will learn the five most important questions to ask, as well as the five most important questions not to ask. By the end of the session, you will have greater clarity on how to jump start innovation back at your school; and within your community.
