The Student of Tomorrow: Fostering the Project Mindset

The Great Reset in education is aimed at moving from a credentialed, test based world to a performance and strengths based world. For students, the future of learning revolves around personalized pathways, passion based enterprise, authentic challenge, community contribution, and inquiry and design based project work. All this requires a fundamental shift in reimagining how students will behave and what they will know as a result of these experiences.

The Student of Tomorrow presentation will focus on the two innovations necessary to reimagining learning. First, the Project Mindset offers a seamless vision of performance and accomplishment that integrates the development of a knowledge base, enhanced strengths and skills, emotional fitness, wellbeing, and the resilient behaviors necessary to confront the future successfully into a map that can guide teachers, parents, and students as they transition into the next era of education.

The presentation will also address the ‘teacher of tomorrow.’ It will not be enough to claim that teachers are now facilitators and guides; there is a critical need to define a deeper skill set and more refined version of teacher capability that includes project design, strengths focused mentoring and coaching, relationship-oriented methods of connecting with aspirations of youth, and the role of the teacher as a co-learner in co-designing and co-constructing learning. The presentation will conclude with thoughts on how to meet this scalability challenge through redefining teacher preparation and training.
