Beyond Coexistence: Understanding our individual role in diverse communities

If we live in a post-colonial world, why does cultural hierarchy still exist? And how do we counter this? Structural solutions are in the works but they're not enough. And why the buzz around Diversity? Colourful student bodies suggest we've achieved coexistence on a small-scale, but coexistence is not what we should be aiming for.

Educators have an individual responsibility to be equipped with (or actively learning) the skills we wish to see in our learners - the ability to positively engage with a diverse community is no different.

This session will explore the rhetoric around diversity and the outcomes of different approaches to being inclusive. It will introduce a "Framework for Engaging with Diversity"; exploring intentional practices that we as educators can implement in our own lives and work spaces in order to contribute to a thriving diverse community.
