For too long, educators, parents and even students themselves have known that there are skills beyond those in the traditional curriculum that were becoming increasingly important to success - but articulating this change and how to address it have been elusive. Soft skills, people skills, and single-focus ideas like design thinking and growth mindset are some of the terms that have helped - but a unified way to map and ensure students grow across the whole spectrum of literacies that a change to a fully digital era is bringing has felt our of reach.

This session will provide answers to this dilemma via the work of the FutureWe.org community who have spent the last 3 years collating fifty possible top-level skills that the shift to a digital future requires into one succinct framework. From this work comes a mapping tool and a growing list of ways that students as well as their ‘grown-ups’ can use it to help them grow and prosper.

In addition, this session will share the work of Firstonmars.net and STEM Punks as examples of how to bring such previously elusive skills directly into the classroom in a way that combines 'lessons' with the students inherent humanity. Participants will be given access to the mapping tool and free resources to evaluate. The session will also focus its message around key Learnlife principles of life long learning and positive educational change.
