Most of us acknowledge that education is at the heart of global efforts to adapt to social change. But, how can TECH help build new forms of education that foster the competencies that communities and economies need? Aiming at a truly sustainable future, we must start to understand the structural changes needed for the best possible digital transformation of education.

As we all know, we are experiencing a rapid digital transformation in the educational field since the Covid-19 crisis started. And, even though we were all cheerful at first and very proud of how quickly we were able to offer online education, we are slowly starting to see the cracks in that image.
For example, recently, students in higher education in the Netherlands,
were protesting and demanding more in-person education once more.
They consider the online classes to be of a lower level and the experience of being in the same space, being able to see each other in the eyes, laugh together, have more dynamic discussions… is greatly missed and, they say, this is affecting their progress.

This presentation will be about the great potential of tech and digital transformation in the educational landscape, if we do it right. Specifically in the light of reaching global goals such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals: we need to educate and train how to 1) collaborate across cultures, 2) become fluent in online dialogue and 3) prevent 'design waste' by sharing and building on each others work more.

Education is still at the heart of transformation, but it needs to use the potential of the digital transformation more to prevent falling behind and leaving it to big tech to solve our global issues.
