If you could get better at ONE THING — the One Big Thing that would make the biggest difference to your fulfillment and effectiveness to leading the change kids deserve, what would that be?

This Firestarter talk is an introduction to a research-based cutting edge technology for adult development. It is designed to provide a clear rationale for why our change efforts so commonly fail and then will highlight the next steps for combatting this immunity to change. Based on 30 years of work led by Robert Keegan and Lisa Lahey, this acknowledgment of our immunity is critical to catalyzing the change learners need and desire.

The core of this work is in the workshop that should follow in which participants would work with the tool itself to serve their needs and context.

Today's world demands new learning environments, yet we often fail to realize these shifts regardless of our best intentions. The Immunity to Change model begins with the conversation about who we are as people and what barriers we (inadvertently) create that get in the way of tackling well-intentioned, strategic change. Addressing the fundamental sources of why we fail to enact the change that is necessary is critical if we hope to generate and act on learning innovations.

The core learning objective of this session is to provide participants with a new way of thinking about personal change - the type of change that leads to more generative social fields and catalyzes the transformations we need in education today.
